The University of Pretoria LLM Scholarship is an intensive one-year program, where 25-30 exceptional students will spend six months in Pretoria and the other six months at one of 12 partner universities across Africa. Graduates join the HRDA Alumni Association, currently boasting 537 members working across various human rights sectors, including grassroots organizations, the African Union, and the United Nations.
Eligibility Requirements:
To qualify for the University of Pretoria LLM Scholarship, applicants must:
Be an African citizen
Be invited to apply for the Master’s Degree (LLM/MPhil) in Human Rights and Democratisation at the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria
Hold a first degree in Law (LLB or equivalent) or an Honours degree relevant to human rights and democratisation
Demonstrate a commitment to human rights and democratisation in Africa
Show potential for using the qualification in future work, preferably in the applicant’s home country
Ensure diverse geographical and gender representation in the program, with special focus on equitable representation from vulnerable communities, such as persons with disabilities, indigenous people, and LGBTI persons
Scholarship Duration and Coverage:
The scholarship offers full funding for up to 25 African students, covering tuition, accommodation, and program-related activities for one year. Students who do not receive scholarships may still be admitted as self-funding or partial self-funding students, provided they meet the minimum criteria.
