Applications are now open for the 2026 City of Johannesburg (CoJ) Bursary Programme. The City of Johannesburg Municipality remains committed to providing skills development and educational opportunities — not only for its employees, but also for the wider Johannesburg community.
Through this initiative, the City is offering 200 bursaries to South African youth who permanently reside in Johannesburg, enabling them to pursue full-time undergraduate studies in a range of approved disciplines.

Fields of Study
Successful applicants may study in one of the following fields:
Actuarial Science
Built Environment (Architecture, Construction, Urban and Regional Planning, Quantity Surveying)
Commerce
Community Services
Emergency Management Services
Engineering (All fields)
Finance (Accounting, Auditing, Small Business Management, Supply Chain Management, Treasury, Economics)
Geo Information Science (GIS)
Health (All fields)
Information Technology and Management (All fields)
International Relations and Protocol
Legal Studies
Logistics
Marketing
Municipal Governance (Monitoring and Evaluation)
Real Estate (Property Management, Property Valuation)

Bursary Value
The bursary covers:
Tuition and registration fees
Prescribed books and/or study materials
Up to R40,000.00 per academic year

Selection Criteria
Selection of successful candidates will be strictly based on academic merit.
Applicants must:
Study at an accredited South African tertiary institution
Take responsibility for seeking admission to a tertiary institution
Apply for a qualification not shorter than one year
Note that the bursary does not apply to postgraduate studies
Maintain satisfactory academic performance for annual renewal

Application Requirements
Applicants must submit certified copies of the following documents:
Most recent academic record
South African Identity Document
Proof of residency in Johannesburg (e.g., municipal rates or utility bill)
Parents’ proof of income or death certificate(s); an affidavit is required if one or both parents are unavailable
📩 Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted. If no response is received within six (6) weeks after the closing date, applicants should consider their application unsuccessful.
