One hundred students from Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State have received a major financial boost as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr Elvert Ayambem, disbursed N10 million in bursary support to ease their education expenses.
The bursary presentation was held on Sunday at Ayambem’s country home in Nde community, drawing students, parents, community leaders and party stakeholders.
Speaking through his Chief of Staff, Mr Anakan Ndoma, the Speaker said the initiative was designed to reduce the financial pressure on students and their families while motivating beneficiaries to pursue academic excellence.
According to him, the bursary scheme reflects a deliberate investment in education and human capital development in Ikom LGA.
He urged the beneficiaries to remain focused, disciplined and committed to their studies, stressing that the support was meant to shape their future and contribute to the growth of their communities.
Chairman of the occasion, Mr Asinya Ntan, praised Ayambem for his consistent support for education, describing the bursary scheme as a clear example of responsive and people-centred leadership.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, President of the National Association of Ikom Students Worldwide, Mr Atep Godiva, described the intervention as timely and impactful, especially in the face of rising education costs.
He thanked the Speaker for prioritising students’ welfare and giving them renewed hope to continue their academic pursuits.
