The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Mr Akintunde Sawyerr, was honoured at the maiden convocation ceremony of the University of Delta, Agbor on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
The ceremony, held at the university in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, marked a historic milestone for the young institution as it celebrated its first graduating set. The event attracted dignitaries from government, academia and the private sector.
Among those in attendance were the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, members of the State Executive Council, traditional rulers, captains of industry and other distinguished guests.
Sawyerr received an Award of Recognition alongside Governor Oborevwori and the Chairman of the NELFUND Board, Jim Ovia, in acknowledgment of his leadership and role in advancing the Federal Government’s Student Loan Programme.

The award citation highlighted his commitment to the successful rollout and implementation of the student loan initiative under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at expanding access to higher education for Nigerian students.
The NELFUND Managing Director was accompanied to the event by members of his team, including the Director of Human Resources, Dr Zino Ugboma; Technical Assistant to the MD, Mr Nasir Ayitogo; Executive Assistant to the MD, Mr Yomi Gbadamosi; Personal Assistant to the MD, Miss Olamide Alayaki; and Assistant Manager, Monitoring and Evaluation, Miss Petrolina Osobase.
