President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a fresh round of appointments across key education agencies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the National Library of Nigeria.
At NECO, Professor Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been appointed Chairman of the Governing Board, while Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi will continue in his role as Registrar.
In the technical education sector, Engr. Dr Bongfa Binfa has been named Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State. His appointment follows a competitive selection process and is for a single five-year term. He succeeds Dr Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, the institution’s pioneer Rector whose tenure recently ended. Dr Binfa holds a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny.
For NBTE, Professor Babatunde Salako has been appointed Chairman of the Governing Board. The President had earlier reappointed Professor Idris M. Bugaje as Executive Secretary for a second and final five-year term.
Meanwhile, Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi’s tenure as Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria has been renewed for a final five-year term. First appointed in 2021, Anunobi has led reforms aimed at transforming the institution into a modern, technology-driven knowledge hub.
Under her leadership, initiatives such as the National Repository of Nigeria, the National Virtual Library, and digital indexing systems have been introduced. She has also advanced efforts to complete the National Library headquarters in Abuja and consolidate heritage collections from state branches.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the appointments and tenure renewal will sustain ongoing reforms, strengthen institutional leadership, and support the implementation of long-term strategic goals in Nigeria’s education sector.
