Babcock University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Project Management Institute (PMI) Nigeria to equip students with globally recognised project management skills, enhance their employability, and strengthen their competitiveness in the international labour market.
The partnership, announced on August 7, 2026, will provide students with access to professional development opportunities, internationally recognised certifications, and PMI’s global network of project management professionals. It will also support the establishment of a PMI Student Club on campus while promoting evidence-based project management, research, and thought leadership.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, PMI Africa Head of Community, Mrs. Adeola Akande, said the collaboration would expand student membership across Africa and provide aspiring project professionals with the skills needed to drive innovation, digital transformation, and entrepreneurship.
Babcock University President and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Afolarin Ojewole, described the partnership as a strategic investment in human capital development, reaffirming the university’s commitment to producing globally competitive graduates.
“We are about growing and building people, and this is about growing people. Let’s do this,” he said.
President of PMI Nigeria, Arc. (Dr.) Gbolahan Oyelakin, described the agreement as a landmark initiative that would expose students to networking opportunities, leadership development, and globally recognised certification programmes.
As part of the partnership, PMI announced an all-expenses-paid trip to Cape Town for a Babcock University student to participate in the institute’s regional programme later this year.
The signing ceremony, held at the Vice-Chancellor’s Boardroom, was attended by senior university officials, including Senior Vice President (Academics), Prof. Jonathan Nwosu; Vice President (Advancement and Development), Dr. Olaniyi Arije; Director of Legal Services, Dr. Joseph Agada; Chief of Staff, Dr. Joshua Suleiman; and members of the PMI Nigeria delegation.
The university said the partnership aligns with its GRACE mandate of producing globally relevant, research-driven, entrepreneurial, and values-based graduates while preparing students for leadership and career opportunities in an increasingly competitive global economy.
