The Federal Government has released the Consolidated Non-Academic Staff Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CONTA) to non-academic staff of all federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education, covering the period from January to August 2026.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, announced the development in a statement, describing the payment as part of the Federal Government’s commitment to staff welfare, industrial harmony and the stability of the academic calendar.
According to Alausa, the payment reflects the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to improving workers’ welfare and creating an enabling environment for the delivery of quality education under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He said the release of the allowance demonstrates the government’s recognition of the role both academic and non-academic staff play in the effective functioning of tertiary institutions and the development of Nigeria’s human capital.
The minister noted that the payment forms part of ongoing efforts to address welfare concerns, promote industrial harmony and reduce disruptions to academic activities across the tertiary education sector.
The development comes days after the commencement of payment of the Consolidated Academic Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CATA) to academic staff.
Alausa said the payments reaffirm the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening tertiary institutions and supporting the workforce responsible for producing the skilled manpower needed for national development.
He assured stakeholders that the Ministry of Education would continue to engage unions, institutional authorities and other stakeholders to address outstanding issues and promote a stable and productive tertiary education system.
The minister also commended academic and non-academic staff, institutional heads and unions for their cooperation and support.
He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to policies and initiatives aimed at improving staff welfare, institutional stability, human capital development and learning outcomes across the country’s tertiary institutions.
The Federal Government further assured stakeholders that it remains committed to fulfilling its obligations and sustaining reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s education system.
