Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, CON, has warmly welcomed the Federal Government’s official adoption of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) as a federal institution, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of teacher education in Nigeria.
The transition, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, reinforces TASUED’s position as the country’s first specialised university of education and aligns with the administration’s commitment to strengthening the nation’s education sector.
Governor Abiodun emphasised that his government had worked diligently to facilitate the transition, recognising TASUED’s strategic role in producing highly skilled educators. He expressed deep appreciation to President Tinubu for his visionary leadership in prioritising teacher education and institutional development.
“This decision not only safeguards the legacy of Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Dr Tai Solarin—two iconic figures in Nigerian education—but also acknowledges the critical intervention of the Awujale of Ijebuland in preserving TASUED in 2012,” the statement read.
With this development, TASUED joins the ranks of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education and Adeyemi Federal University of Education, further solidifying its reputation as a premier institution for teacher training and professional development.
Governor Abiodun reiterated his administration’s dedication to implementing policies that will support TASUED’s new status, ensuring the institution continues to thrive as a centre of excellence in education.
