The Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has reassured its current law students that the recent one-year suspension of admissions into its law programme will not affect them.
In a statement released on Thursday in Ilorin, the Acting Director of University Relations, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, clarified that the ban, imposed by the Council for Legal Education (CLE), applies only to new admissions for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Aliyu explained that the CLE sanctioned KWASU for initiating its law programme in 2018 with only the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC) but has since obtained full accreditation from both regulatory bodies for its undergraduate programmes in Common Law and Common and Islamic Law.
“Management wishes to state that the one-year ban does not in any way affect students currently enrolled in the university’s Faculty of Law,” Aliyu emphasized.
She reaffirmed KWASU’s commitment to regulatory compliance and stated that while admissions for the two law programmes will be suspended for one academic year, prospective students can explore other accredited courses offered by the university.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) had earlier announced that it would not process admissions for KWASU’s Law programme, along with those of seven other universities, due to the CLE’s suspension of their Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.
