The National Information Technology Development Agency has reached an agreement with payments technology firm Flutterwave and a private investment company, Alami, to accelerate Nigeria’s digital economy.
The partnership seeks to equip small and medium-sized enterprises with the necessary tools to thrive in an increasingly digital marketplace, the country’s technology agency said in a statement on Friday.
Under the agreement, the three entities will collaborate to bridge the digital divide by promoting digital literacy, fostering fintech innovation, and creating an enabling environment for businesses to leverage secure and efficient financial solutions.
NITDA’s Director General, Kashifu Inuwa, underscored the importance of public-private collaboration in realising Nigeria’s digital economy aspirations.
“Flutterwave’s innovative fintech solutions align with our vision for a thriving digital economy. The slow adoption of digital tools among SMEs has been a major impediment to economic growth.
“Through this collaboration, we aim to provide businesses with the resources and infrastructure necessary to transition seamlessly into the digital age,” he said.
Inuwa also highlighted NITDA’s commitment to strengthening engagement with key private sector players to accelerate digital transformation.
“This partnership is a strategic step towards achieving our shared digital transformation goals, reinforcing our commitment to national progress in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” he added.
The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, which aims to enhance the country’s digital capabilities and expand opportunities for businesses in the technology sector.
By equipping Nigerian enterprises with digital solutions, the collaboration seeks to drive economic growth, create employment opportunities, and ensure inclusive access to the benefits of a digital economy.
Flutterwave’s Founder and CEO, Olugbenga ‘GB’ Agboola, expressed confidence in the partnership’s ability to empower SMEs.
