The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has raised the alarm over fraudulent websites, social media accounts and individuals claiming to offer its services.
Here are five key things teachers, school owners and prospective applicants should know:
1. TRCN Has Only One Official Website
According to the council, its only approved online platform is www.trcn.gov.ng
“The Council does not own or operate any other portal other than our official website: www.trcn.gov.ng,” TRCN Registrar, Dr Ronke Soyombo, said.
2. No Agent Is Authorised to Process TRCN Services
TRCN says it has not authorised any agent, consultant, third party or staff member to collect money or process registration, certification, licensing, employment or promotion outside its official channels.
If anyone claims to be a TRCN agent offering special assistance for a fee, the council says you should be cautious.
3. Be Careful of Social Media and WhatsApp Offers
The council warned teachers to be wary of social media posts, WhatsApp messages, emails and websites advertising TRCN registration, Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE), certification or licensing services.
TRCN advised stakeholders to verify such information through its official channels before taking any action.
4. Don’t Pay Money Into Personal Accounts
TRCN stressed that it does not collect payments through personal bank accounts.
Teachers and applicants are advised to avoid sending money to individuals claiming to process TRCN services on behalf of the council.
5. Certificates Obtained Through Unofficial Channels Are Invalid
The council warned that certificates and licences obtained outside its approved process will not be recognised.
“Certificates and licences issued outside our official process are fake, invalid and not recognised by the council,” Soyombo said.
TRCN also disclosed that it has involved law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute individuals using the council’s identity to defraud members of the public.
