The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has called on the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to intensify efforts to protect schools and critical infrastructure across the state.
The appeal was made by the Executive Secretary of the LSSTF, Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, during a visit to the Lagos State Command of the NSCDC on Wednesday.
Ogunsan said the safety of pupils and students should remain a priority, stressing that protecting children is vital to the country’s future.
“I want them to go to school and have peace of mind and come back to their parents after school. That’s when they feel the impact of security,” he said.
He also urged the Corps to sustain efforts in safeguarding critical infrastructure across Lagos.
During the visit, the LSSTF donated 30 ballistic helmets, 30 bulletproof vests and 100 raincoats to strengthen the operational capacity of NSCDC personnel.
Ogunsan described the Corps as a key security partner and said the donation was both a recognition of its contributions and a demonstration of the fund’s continued support for security agencies in the state.
He assured the command that additional operational equipment would be provided as resources become available.
Responding, the Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC, Adedotun Sunday Keshinro, thanked the LSSTF for the support, describing the donation as a boost to the command’s operations.
He said the equipment would enhance personnel effectiveness in protecting lives, property and critical assets across the state.
Keshinro also disclosed that plans for a new six-storey NSCDC headquarters in Alausa had been delayed due to funding challenges, despite the allocation of land by the Lagos State Government in August 2024.
He added that refurbishment had commenced on another permanent facility for the command at Iponri and reiterated the Corps’ commitment to maintaining security across Lagos through its network of 50 divisional offices and 10 area commands.
