Canadian poet and essayist Anne Carson has won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature.
The Swedish Academy honoured Carson for her “bold and inventive oeuvre” and her playful engagement with classical traditions to create new forms of contemporary literature.
The 76-year-old writer is known for blending poetry, prose, dialogue and translation, with ancient Greek literature playing a major role in her work. Her notable works include Autobiography of Red and Norma Jeane Baker of Troy.
The award comes with a prize of 12 million Swedish kronor, worth about $1.2 million.
