The Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, has said the education sector will intensify efforts to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu, targeting 10 million votes ahead of the next election.
Alausa made this known on Sunday, October 25, 2026, while congratulating Tinubu on the launch of his campaign in Kaduna State. He described the turnout at the event as a sign of growing confidence in the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The minister, who chairs the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council’s Education Mobilisation Working Group in Abuja, said the Kaduna campaign launch had strengthened the group’s resolve to expand its nationwide engagement.
According to him, the mobilisation drive will involve stakeholders across universities, polytechnics, monotechnics, colleges of education and other institutions nationwide.
Alausa also highlighted progress under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), the Federal Ministry of Education’s six-pillar reform programme aimed at expanding access to education, improving learning outcomes and developing a skills-driven economy.
One of the initiative’s key components is the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme, which provides tuition-free vocational training, monthly stipends and pathways to employment and entrepreneurship.
According to figures cited in the ministry’s statement, TVET has received more than 1.3 million applications, matched 160,000 young Nigerians with training opportunities and disbursed approximately ₦13.98 billion to training centres and trainees.
Other interventions under NESRI include the Nigerian Education Data Infrastructure, which supports education data management, and the EduRevamp teacher development platform, which has registered more than 51,500 teachers.
The initiative also includes increased investment in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medical Sciences, alongside targeted support for out-of-school children and girl-child education.
“These initiatives are opening new opportunities for young Nigerians, strengthening teaching and learning, and positioning education as a driver of skills, innovation and national development,” Alausa said.
The minister reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to implementing NESRI and working with education stakeholders to improve access, skills development, learning outcomes and education quality nationwide.
The statement was signed by Ikharo Attah, Special Adviser on Media and Communications, on October 25, 2026.
