Babcock team emerged tops as the University hosted the maiden edition of the Sports Invitational Championships held June 25 – 27 aimed at fostering stronger relationships with other institutions.
With a total of 27 medals comprising 14 gold, 9 silver and 4 bronze, it beat Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State to second place while Mountain Top, Bowen, and Trinity University came third, fourth and fifth place respectively. The BU team clinched its medals in football, Lawn Tennis, Athletics, Basket Ball, Volley Ball, Scrabble, Badminton and Table Tennis.
In recognition of the out-standing administrative support for the champion-ships, the BU team presented the President/Vice chancellor, Prof. Ademola Tayo with the overall best trophy at the just concluded tournament.
Deputy Director, Student Activities, Mr. Dennis Ami-cable presented the cup to Prof. Tayo with Vice President Student Development, Dr Sunday Audu in attendance.
While acknowledging that their dedication and hard work had earned them the championship trophy, Professor Tayo encouraged them to strive for even greater success in the future.
He expressed the ad-ministration’s pride in providing support.
Pastor Audu said in every competition winners and losers would emerge.
He praised Babcock football team for putting up a spirit-ed fight in their match against Adeleke team which picked the gold medal in football. “I see you all as world class players in the future, he said. “We are glad to host the games and believe your journeys back home to your stations would be safe.”
