The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has assured students that they will not face harassment for loan repayment if they are not yet employed. This came as the fund onboarded 260 federal and state tertiary institutions and registered over 360,000 students for the Federal Government’s interest-free loan program.
Speaking at a sensitization event at Ebonyi State University, Managing Director Akintunde Sawyerr clarified that loan repayment will only begin two years after graduation and the completion of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) – and only if the graduate is employed. He emphasized that the loan remains interest-free and accessible to all students, regardless of background, as long as they meet the requirements.
Sawyerr also highlighted that NELFUND has streamlined the application process to ensure no student is denied the opportunity to benefit from the scheme.
