The Federal Government has launched a Smart School Protection Strategy to strengthen security across schools nationwide through a renewed partnership with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Unveiled during a strategic engagement, the initiative underscores the administration’s zero tolerance for attacks on schools and its commitment to guaranteeing the safety of every Nigerian child.
The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, CON, described school protection as a non-negotiable priority. He announced the establishment of a dedicated Department of Safe School Initiative to coordinate policy, monitoring, and inter-agency collaboration, with NSCDC serving as the lead operational agency.
Key components include deployment of smart security solutions such as emergency panic alert systems, rapid response mechanisms, and enhanced command and control centres to ensure intelligence-driven interventions. The Ministry is also advancing sustainable financing models to guarantee consistent implementation nationwide.
NSCDC Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, disclosed that over 60,000 of 81,000 schools lack adequate security infrastructure. He highlighted specialized units that have foiled more than 110 threats.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its resolve to ensure safe, secure, and uninterrupted access to quality education.
