The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has inaugurated the newly elected 2026/2027 Students’ Union Government (SUG) Executive Council, with a charge to embrace responsible leadership, accountability, and sustainable development in the discharge of their duties. The inauguration took place during a Joint Handover and Swearing-in Ceremony held today, June 17, 2026, at the Green Chamber.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Olawale Dairo, described the emergence of a new crop of student leaders as a fresh opportunity for growth and progress within the University ”
Community. He noted that the election recorded an impressive voter turnout of 47.5 percent, which he said reflected students’ increasing confidence in the University’s democratic process.
The Vice-Chancellor urged the newly inaugurated executives to regard leadership as a sacred trust and a covenant with the students they represent, stressing the need for humility, fairness, courage, accountability, and dedication to the collective welfare of the student body. He also assured them of Management’s readiness to engage constructively through dialogue and collaboration.
In his acceptance speech, the newly sworn-in SUG President, Comrade Soga Oluwatimileyin, expressed appreciation to students for the confidence reposed in his administration. He pledged to prioritise students’ welfare, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and pursue sustainable solutions to challenges affecting students, particularly the issue of electricity supply in student-populated communities around the University.
Also speaking, the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Festus Adeosun, congratulated the new executives and reminded them that leadership was fundamentally about service, sacrifice, and responsibility. He encouraged them to remain humble, seek guidance from former leaders, and always place the interests of students above personal ambitions.
A major highlight of the event was the administration of the oath of office on the newly elected Executive Council, comprising the President, Comrade Soga Oluwatimileyin; Vice President, Comrade Olatilewa Taiwo; General Secretary, Comrade Yusuff Ahmad and the Assistant General Secretary, Comrade Ajibade Precious.
Others were the Director of Socials, Comrade Bamidele Oyindamola; Director of Sports, Comrade Fadumo Emmanuel; Director of Finance, Comrade Adegbola Simeon; Director of Treasury, Comrade Ogunsanwo Adebola; Director of Welfare and Business, Comrade Adebayo Emmanuel and the Public Relations Officer, Comrade Oyekunle Jesutobiloba.
Among dignitaries present at the ceremony were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olusegun Idowu; representative of the Bursar, Mrs. Comfort Dasaolu; Deputy Dean, Student Affairs, Dr. Mathew Whetto; Student Affairs Officer, Mrs. Wuraola Badmus; Student Affairs Matron, Mrs. Kemi Fashina; Mr. and Mrs. Shina Soga, parents of the newly inaugurated SUG President; and the National President of the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS), Comrade Olubodun Olamilekan.
Also in attendance were former Students’ Union Presidents, Comrade Isaiah Olamilekan and Comrade Adekunle Tijani, alongside other distinguished guests, stakeholders, and members of staff of the Student Affairs Division.
