Students of Ramba Boys High School staged a protest on Thursday night, calling for the removal of the school principal.
The school had only reopened on Tuesday after being closed indefinitely in March, following a tragic incident in which two students died when a septic tank collapsed.
On Thursday, students took to the Ndori-Lwanda Kotieno road, chanting slogans such as “principal must go” and waving twigs in protest. They accused the principal of poor leadership, which they blame for the tragedy that claimed their classmates’ lives.
During the unrest, students reportedly set the school’s sentry post on fire.
The protests come shortly after President William Ruto, during a burial ceremony for George Oduor — a former aide to Raila Odinga — held at the school, pledged Sh20 million towards improving the institution’s infrastructure.
