Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Honourable Bright Msaka, SC, is set to deliver a keynote address at the forthcoming Global Smart Education Conference in Beijing, People’s Republic of China, where education and technology leaders will explore the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in transforming education systems worldwide.
The conference is expected to bring together more than 20 education ministers, alongside technology experts, policymakers and global education leaders, at a time when AI is rapidly reshaping virtually every aspect of society.
According to technology experts, AI presents significant opportunities to transform teaching and learning by making education more personalised, accessible and responsive to the needs of individual learners.
Honourable Msaka says it will be an honour to address such a high-profile international gathering, noting that the rapid development of AI is already changing how societies communicate, conduct business and deliver public services, as well as how teachers teach and learners acquire knowledge.
He added that the critical question for governments and education stakeholders should not simply be how to introduce AI into schools, but how to ensure that the technology contributes to education systems that are inclusive, equitable, relevant, resilient and sustainable.
The minister says education systems around the world continue to face challenges, including shortages of qualified teachers, overcrowded classrooms, unequal access to learning resources and limited educational opportunities for learners in remote communities.
He notes that AI could help address some of these challenges by enabling personalised learning, helping teachers identify learning gaps and expanding access to quality educational resources.
Held under the theme “AI in Higher Education: From Disruption to Transformation,” the Global Smart Education Conference will provide a platform for education and technology leaders to examine the role of digital innovation and emerging technologies in shaping the future of education.
The conference is also expected to facilitate discussions on how countries can harness the opportunities presented by AI while ensuring that technological advancement supports equitable access to quality education.
