In a major stride for Nigerian sports, the country has been announced as the host of the first-ever World Athletics Africa Road Running Conference. The National Sports Commission (NSC) made the announcement on Wednesday through a press statement signed by its Director of Press, Mrs. Kehinde Ajayi.
The NSC also unveiled an Organising Committee for the event, comprising seasoned professionals drawn from the sports sector and corporate world. The committee will be chaired by Chief Solomon Ogba, First Vice President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC).
NSC Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, emphasized the careful and strategic selection of committee members, citing their professionalism and track record. “The committee members were chosen for their tested qualities and professionalism. I am confident they will deliver a top-class Road Running Conference— the first of its kind in Nigeria,” he stated.
Director-General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, highlighted the long-term benefits of hosting the event, noting that it positions Nigeria for more international sporting engagements. “This conference is a milestone for reimagining and refocusing our sports development agenda. I believe we have assembled a capable team to make this event a success,” he said.
