The Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), in collaboration with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), has inaugurated an ultra-modern Information and Communication Technology (ICT) hub in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to enhance digital literacy and innovation among Nigerian youths.
The fully equipped centre, located at Baptist High School, was commissioned as part of the closing ceremony for the Human Capital Development Basic Training Programme, a joint initiative by both organisations.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Mr. Felix Ogbe, described the new ICT facility as a “gateway to knowledge and innovation” and a major step towards preparing young Nigerians for a technology-driven future.
Represented by the General Manager, Institutional Strengthening, Mr. Olugbenga Sheba, Ogbe said the project reflects a shared belief in the potential of Nigerian students to become creators, innovators, and entrepreneurs when given access to the right tools.
> “The remodelled ICT centre is more than a building. It is a statement of belief that students here can learn coding, design, and innovation that connects them with the wider world,” Ogbe said.
“It represents our confidence that when equipped with the right resources, Nigerian students can become creators, innovators, and entrepreneurs.”
He commended NLNG for its consistent partnership with NCDMB and its commitment to advancing Nigerian Content goals through education and capacity development.
Also speaking, Dr. Sophia Horsfall, NLNG’s General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to human capital development and compliance with Nigerian Content regulations.
She explained that the project aligns with NLNG’s vision of empowering communities through education and technology, while also supporting sustainable development and youth empowerment.
> “The upgraded ICT centre, which complies with existing NCDMB regulations, provides students with a modern learning environment and equips teachers with improved tools to deliver quality education,” she said.
“At NLNG, we are passionate about promoting technological inclusion and improving employability among young Nigerians.”
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the facility has been expanded to a 40-seater digital lab and fitted with a 20KVA solar and inverter system to ensure uninterrupted power supply. The project also includes renovated classrooms, administrative offices, smart boards, and other modern learning tools.
In a statement, NLNG’s Corporate Communication Manager, Mrs. Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku, announced the graduation of 30 trainees under the Human Capital Development Basic Training Programme jointly organised by both organisations.
She said the trainees, who earned international certifications, underwent intensive training in Engineering, Marine Operations, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), and Entrepreneurship.
Palmer-Ikuku noted that the initiative underscores NLNG and NCDMB’s shared mission to build local capacity, promote digital inclusion, and support Nigeria’s broader vision of sustainable development through education and skill acquisition.
