MEARL Hub Afrika (MHA)has announced a call for applications for the position of Youth Portfolio Evaluation Co-Facilitators as part of the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) Young People HIV Portfolio Evaluation (2022–2026). The evaluation, commissioned by EJAF, is an independent Portfolio Realist Evaluation (PRE) covering thirteen grants across the four countries. It focuses on key areas such as digital health demand creation, drone-enabled supply chains, differentiated HIV service delivery, integration of mental health into HIV programming, and global advocacy for adolescent HIV financing. The methodology combines Contribution Analysis, Most Significant Change (MSC) storytelling, focus group discussions (FGDs), key informant interviews (KIIs), and in-depth case studies.
MHA is recruiting four co-facilitators, one per country, to support primary data collection alongside country team leads during July and August 2026. These roles are targeted at early-to-mid career qualitative researchers with practical experience working with adolescents and young people aged 15–24 in areas such as HIV, sexual and reproductive health (SRH), community health, or mental health.
The selected co-facilitators will assist in co-facilitating focus group discussions using participatory and youth-friendly approaches, supporting MSC story collection, contributing to case study evidence, and assisting with transcription, coding, and preliminary qualitative analysis. They will also be responsible for adhering to strict ethical standards, safeguarding protocols, and data confidentiality requirements throughout the evaluation process.
Applicants must clearly indicate the country they are applying for and must be resident in, or able to travel within, that country during the fieldwork period. The positions require full availability for approximately 10–15 working days between July and August 2026, including training, fieldwork, and synthesis activities.
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as public health, social sciences, psychology, or related disciplines, along with at least two years of experience in qualitative data collection. Candidates must have direct field experience working with adolescents and young people, proficiency in English and at least one local language, and a strong understanding of research ethics and safeguarding principles.
Preferred candidates include those on the MHA Evaluators Roster, female applicants, and individuals with experience working with adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) or key populations. Familiarity with qualitative analysis tools, prior evaluation experience, and postgraduate qualifications are considered advantages.
