The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has once again warned candidates against accepting admission offers made outside the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
The Board said CAPS remains the only approved platform through which tertiary institutions can conduct admissions. The warning follows a rising number of candidates experiencing serious difficulties after accepting unauthorized admissions.
According to JAMB, many affected candidates are unable to print their admission letters, which automatically disqualifies them from key requirements such as proceeding to the Nigerian Law School, practising as medical doctors after graduation, or participating in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The Board stressed that such admissions are illegal and cannot be legitimized.
Parents and candidates were advised to ensure that every admission is processed through CAPS and that the official JAMB Admission Letter is printed before taking any further steps.
JAMB also criticized institutions offering admissions outside CAPS, noting that they violate regulations—especially in highly regulated programmes like Law and Medicine. The Board said it has already discontinued the regularization of such admissions.
Several affected candidates have taken their institutions to court over the complications they now face, and JAMB confirmed that it is supporting their pursuit of justice.
The Board urged institutions to stop issuing admissions outside CAPS and advised those facing capacity issues or pressure from stakeholders to engage directly with JAMB rather than bypass the approved system.
