The Federal Ministry of Education has bid farewell to its Permanent Secretary, Mr Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, following his appointment as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF).
Enitan’s departure marks the end of his 17-month tenure as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry.
At a handover ceremony in Abuja, Enitan expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, and the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, for the opportunity to serve in the ministry.
Reflecting on his time in office, the outgoing Permanent Secretary commended directors and staff of the Ministry for their professionalism, commitment and contributions to the development of Nigeria’s education sector and human capital.
He urged staff to maintain high standards of integrity, accountability, teamwork and professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Enitan also called for greater reliance on data-driven decision-making and prudent management of public resources, stressing the need for government officials to remain focused on delivering measurable results for Nigerians.
He further encouraged staff to embrace lifelong learning, mentorship and continuous professional development as essential tools for improving public service delivery.
As part of the transition, Enitan handed over the Ministry’s operational documents to the Director of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr (Mrs) Folake Olatunji-David, who will oversee the Office of the Permanent Secretary in an acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive Permanent Secretary.
Olatunji-David pledged to build on the Ministry’s existing achievements, promising to prioritise continuity, collaboration, teamwork and effective service delivery.
The Federal Ministry of Education congratulated Enitan on his appointment as Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and expressed confidence that he would continue to support the growth and development of Nigeria’s education sector in his new national role.
