The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has again demonstrated its growing reputation as a breeding ground for globally competitive professionals, as one of its distinguished alumni, Dr. Oyefunmilayo Amoda, has earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nutrition from Oregon State University, Corvallis, United States, and secured an appointment as an Assistant Professor at a prestigious American university.
The remarkable feat emphasised FUNAAB’s commitment to producing graduates equipped with the knowledge, skills and research competencies required to excel in the global academic and professional environment.
Dr. Amoda graduated from FUNAAB’s Department of Nutrition and Dietetics in 2021 with First Class Honours, emerging as the Best Graduating Student in her Department. During her undergraduate years, she distinguished herself not only through outstanding academic performance but also through active participation in cutting-edge research under the mentorship of renowned Academics in the University.
As a young researcher, she contributed to several scholarly publications in reputable peer-reviewed nutrition journals, focusing on critical public health issues, including adolescent nutrition in Abeokuta schools and micronutrient adequacy among civil servants in Ogun State. The strong academic foundation, research exposure and mentorship she received at FUNAAB made her an exceptional candidate for Doctoral studies abroad.
Her impressive academic portfolio earned her direct admission into a fully funded PhD programme at Oregon State University without the requirement of a Master’s degree, GRE, TOEFL or IELTS examinations, while also receiving a waiver of the application fee. She was equally awarded the highly competitive Provost Distinguished Scholarship, reserved for students with exceptional academic and research potential, and served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant throughout her Doctoral programme.
Her Doctoral research focused on the epidemiological roles of nutritional factors in hypertension, resulting in publications in leading international nutrition journals, with additional manuscripts currently undergoing peer review.
In another significant milestone, Dr. Amoda has accepted an appointment as an Assistant Professor at a prestigious university in the United States, where she would begin her academic career in the Fall of 2026, joining the global community of scholars advancing research and innovation.
Dr. Amoda’s success has been widely described as a reflection of FUNAAB’s enduring tradition of academic excellence, impactful mentorship and research-driven education that continues to produce graduates capable of competing and excelling anywhere in the world.
