A half-century after the establishment of Ipapo Community Grammar School, former students are coming together with an ambitious goal: raising ₦500 million to leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
The Old Students’ Association of Ipapo Community Grammar School (OSAICOGS) has unveiled plans to fund major development projects at the school as part of activities marking its 50th anniversary celebration.
The Golden Jubilee celebration, scheduled for September 14 to 20, 2026, will combine celebration with investment in the institution’s future. Central to the plan is the completion of a multipurpose hall and the upgrade of existing buildings and facilities across the school.
According to the association, the projects are designed to give back to a school that has played a significant role in shaping the lives and careers of many former students over the decades.
The proposed multipurpose hall is expected to serve as a hub for academic, cultural, social and community activities, providing students and staff with a more conducive environment for learning and engagement.
In a statement signed by the association’s National Secretary, Ereola Shiyanbola, and President, Femi Olawore, the alumni body described the project as a key legacy of the school’s Golden Jubilee celebration.
“As part of its anniversary legacy, OSAICOGS is completing a multipurpose hall and upgrading existing buildings and facilities within the school. The hall is expected to provide a befitting venue for academic, cultural, social and community activities,” the statement noted.
The association said the total cost of the planned interventions is estimated at ₦500 million and appealed to individuals, corporate organisations, friends of the school and other well-wishers to support the initiative.
Beyond the physical structures, the fundraising campaign reflects a growing trend among alumni groups across Nigeria that are stepping in to complement government efforts in improving educational infrastructure.
OSAICOGS noted that the projects are intended to enhance both the learning experience and the overall school environment for current and future students. Upon completion, the multipurpose hall will be formally handed over to the school as a permanent anniversary gift.
The week-long anniversary celebration will begin on September 14 with an awareness campaign, anniversary walk, tree-planting exercise and press conference.
Other activities lined up for the celebration include interactive sessions, a career day, health screening programmes, a novelty football match and social events aimed at reconnecting old students while supporting the growth of the institution.
