NELFUND Boosts Access to Education for 992 UNIZIK Students
Awka, Anambra State — The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed a total of ₦98,425,000 to students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, as part of its financial support initiative for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The disbursement, which was made on February 25, 2026, benefits 992 students of the institution, covering tuition and other statutory charges. The intervention is aimed at easing the financial burden on students and ensuring uninterrupted access to higher education.
According to details of the announcement, the funding forms part of the Federal Government’s broader commitment to expanding access to education through student-friendly financing schemes. The initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to reduce dropout rates linked to financial constraints across Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Stakeholders in the education sector have continued to commend the NELFUND programme, noting that timely disbursements such as this provide critical support for students from low- and middle-income backgrounds.
Beneficiaries of the scheme are expected to continue their academic activities without disruption, as the funding guarantees payment of essential fees required by the university.
The development reinforces the government’s “Renewed Hope” agenda in the education sector, with a focus on inclusivity, accessibility, and sustainability in higher education financing.
