The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Akintunde Sawyerr, has held a strategic engagement with the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, as part of efforts to expand awareness of student loan opportunities among eligible beneficiaries in the state.
According to a statement by NELFUND, the meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the Fund and the Lagos State Government to ensure that more students are informed about and able to access the student loan scheme.
Sawyerr was accompanied by NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi.
During the engagement, the NELFUND boss reiterated the Fund’s commitment to expanding access to higher education through financial support for eligible Nigerian students, regardless of their socio-economic background.
He said the collaboration was aimed at deepening awareness of the programme and increasing participation among students across Lagos State.
Hamzat commended NELFUND for its efforts to support Nigerian students and improve access to higher education through the student loan initiative.
He also expressed appreciation for the Fund’s interventions, noting their potential to reduce financial barriers facing young Nigerians seeking tertiary education.
Sawyerr, in turn, acknowledged the support of the Lagos State Government, particularly its role in encouraging tertiary institutions within the state to participate in the NELFUND programme and inform eligible students about available opportunities.
NELFUND said the engagement underscored its commitment to working with state governments and other stakeholders to ensure that more Nigerian students are reached, informed and empowered to pursue their educational goals.
The Fund added that it would continue to build partnerships aimed at promoting equitable access to higher education and ensuring that qualified students are not denied educational opportunities because of financial constraints.
