…as varsity matriculates 11,327 new students
The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has advised newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session to lay their academic foundation on strong values that will support a successful future.
Prof. Fasina gave the charge on Thursday during his valedictory matriculation address titled “Building a House on the Solid Rock: Foundations for a Successful Future,” delivered at the 1000-Capacity Hall on the Oye campus. The ceremony marked a significant moment as the university matriculated 11,327 fresh students.
Reflecting on his tenure, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor recounted the challenges he overcame while leading the institution, attributing his success to the solid values on which he built his academic and administrative journey. He expressed gratitude to God for a fulfilling term in office.
Addressing the new students, Prof. Fasina highlighted core principles necessary for building a strong academic foundation. These include integrity, hard work, resilience, a sense of community, and a spirit of curiosity and learning.
> “Two things are very important in the life of a student—matriculation and convocation. I pray that you will all convocate in Jesus’ name,” he said. “Today marks the beginning of a successful journey. This is more than a ceremony; it is your official entry into the academic world.”
He stressed the importance of integrity, describing it as the cornerstone of trust and respect, and encouraged students to uphold honesty in all their dealings. Hard work, he said, remains non-negotiable in the pursuit of excellence.
Prof. Fasina advised the students to nurture their curiosity, explore new ideas beyond textbooks, and embrace challenges with resilience. “Setbacks will come, but they should strengthen you,” he added.
The Vice-Chancellor also emphasized the importance of community support, urging the freshers to collaborate with peers, seek help from lecturers, and utilize the university’s support services.
> “The knowledge, skills, and values you acquire here are the building blocks of your future,” he said. “Whether you become entrepreneurs, scientists, artists, or community leaders, your foundation will determine how far you can go.”
As he prepares to exit office, Prof. Fasina expressed confidence that the new students would build their future on a solid foundation, just as many before them have done.
“I have seen students face storms and emerge stronger. I believe you, too, will build on the rock and succeed,” he concluded.
