A bold movement to redefine the future of teaching in Nigeria is gaining momentum as preparations for the Let There Be Teachers Conference 2025 take center stage.
Powered by 1 Million Teachers, the event aims to gather over 60,000 educators from across the nation in what organizers say will be Africa’s largest gathering of teachers yet.
To be Held at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos on September 20, the conference is designed to spotlight the role of teachers in nation-building and call attention to long-standing issues in the education sector—including poor remuneration, the digital gap, and teacher recruitment.
In a press briefing ahead of the conference, passionate voices from Lagos’ education districts came together to address pressing concerns in the teaching profession.
Among the panelists was a seasoned educator and leadership coach who reflected on the emotional significance of the event:
> “As a Black Belt, 3rd Dan, and lifelong teacher-leader, it was deeply emotional to represent not just myself but every teacher who has dared to evolve from the classroom to the boardroom,” she said.
Discussions during the briefing centered on three major themes:
Remuneration: “When will teachers be truly valued for the work they do?”
AI and Technology: “Are we ready to lead in this digital age or be left behind?”
Talent Recruitment: “How do we attract not just young people but the right people into our noble profession?”
At the heart of the conference is a strong call to action for Nigerian teachers to embrace what the organizers refer to as the 4 C’s: Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, and Critical Thinking.
Convener Oluwaseyi Anifowose, whose voice has become synonymous with transformative education in Nigeria, declared, “We are the transformers.” This rallying cry encapsulates the vision of the conference as more than just an event—it’s a movement.
With support from 1 Million Teachers founder Hakeem Subair, and allies like Ifeoma Uchendu who contributed behind the scenes, the conference sets its sights not only on sparking dialogue but making history—with plans to break a Guinness World Record for the largest teachers’ gathering ever recorded.
Educators are encouraged to sign up, show up, and rise together as they chart a new course for education in Nigeria.
