A Lagos State local government councillor, Bashir Omogbolahan (Elewedu), has emphasized the need to strengthen primary education, stating that “every leader today is a product of basic education.”
Omogbolahan, who represents Ward ‘D’ in the Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Legislative Council, made this call during the second edition of his Inter-Primary School Quiz Competition, organized for primary school pupils within the LCDA.
The event, held at the Agboyi-Ketu Area Office, featured two pupils from ten different primary schools competing in a series of academic challenges.
Speaking at the competition, Omogbolahan, who also serves as the Majority Leader of the House, said his commitment to quality primary education inspired the initiative.
“This event is designed to inspire academic excellence and intellectual development among public primary school pupils in Agboyi-Ketu LCDA. Our goal is to encourage students to dream big and work hard. This is just one of our many efforts to invest in the future of our children,” he said.
Omogbolahan stressed that quality primary education is essential for nurturing young minds and fostering healthy competition. He called on stakeholders, including the government and private sector, to contribute to improving learning standards.
“This competition not only tests academic abilities but also instills a spirit of teamwork and perseverance among pupils. Education is the foundation of every great society, and we must prioritize it,” he added.
As a 2025 Local Government Chairmanship aspirant, Omogbolahan urged continuous support for educational initiatives to build a brighter future for young learners.
Also present at the event was the Education Secretary of Kosofe Local Government Education Authority, Mr. Babatunde Shoneye, who commended the councillor’s dedication to education.
“This initiative is commendable. It encourages pupils to study beyond the classroom and prepares them for academic challenges. I hope other councillors, community leaders, and organizations will take similar steps to support education,” Shoneye said.
He praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s efforts in improving primary education and acknowledged Omogbolahan’s contributions to creating a conducive learning environment.
After multiple rounds of rigorous competition covering Mathematics, English, Basic Science, and Current Affairs, Miss Oyediran Abosede and Miss Pascalen Egenonu of Arowosegbe Primary School, Alapere, emerged as winners.
The second-place position went to Miss Endurance Ilesanmi and Master Emmanuel Esomojumi from Anglican Primary School, while Miss Taiwo Ibrahim and Master Joseph Adedayo of Baptist Primary School secured third place.
Other participating schools included Ajelogo, The Apostolic, Irepodun, Agboyi, Pastor Adegboyega, Orisigun, and Alapere Primary Schools.
