In line with the NESRI six-point agenda and consistent with the President’s commitment to providing quality education for all, the Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with TETFUND, has been developing a platform to enhance diaspora engagement in Nigeria’s education, research, and medical institutions.
BRIDGE- Diaspora Bridging Research, Innovation, Development, and Global Engagement, is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) designed to ensure that Nigerian academia and medical institutions benefit from global expertise, funding opportunities, industry linkages, and knowledge transfer.
The portal, scheduled to launch in May 2025, creates structured pathways for Nigerian scholars and professionals abroad to engage meaningfully with institutions back home—bridging gaps in teaching, medical service provision, research capacity, teaching methodologies, and industry relevance.
The Honourable Minister of Education, himself a returnee who was once eager to contribute to the transformation of the nation, recognized the need to simplify the process through which Nigerians in the diaspora can give back and support national development. In his current role, he has prioritized making such engagement easier and more impactful.
BRIDGE represents a transformative shift in how Nigeria engages with diaspora professionals across academia, medical sciences, the arts, industry, and other sectors. This kind of engagement is vital for unlocking the nation’s untapped potential and driving transformative change across society.
As part of the BRIDGE rollout, the platform was demonstrated today Friday 11th April, 2025, at ANPA Lagos. In the coming week, the Ministry will engage Vice-Chancellors, Rectors, and Provosts of tertiary institutions on onboarding their institutions onto the platform and connecting with the diaspora community.
The Ministry is proud of this initiative and looks forward to the positive impact it is set to deliver.
