The management of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has confirmed the receipt of student loan disbursement worth ₦213,218,275 from the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
In a letter obtained by EduTimes Africa, signed by the institution’s Registrar, Mrs. R. U. Ufiofio, and addressed to the Managing Director/CEO of NELFUND, the university disclosed that the funds were released on June 13, 2025, to cover 1,519 students.
The Registrar noted that the intervention would greatly ease the financial strain on students and their families, thereby enabling them to concentrate fully on their academic pursuits.
“This intervention will significantly alleviate the financial burden on our students and their families, enabling them to focus on their academic pursuits. We commend NELFUND for its commitment to advancing accessible education in Nigeria,” the letter read in part.
The university further expressed profound gratitude to NELFUND for the initiative, assuring of continued collaboration in the drive to make education more accessible to Nigerian youths.
The student loan scheme, introduced by the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is designed to provide financial assistance to indigent students in tertiary institutions across the country, with the aim of reducing the dropout rate linked to financial challenges.
