The National Examinations Council (NECO) has honoured exceptional students, schools, supervisors, and staff across Nigeria at its 2024 Staff Productivity Award ceremony, held at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, announced the winners, noting that the recognition was aimed at promoting excellence, discipline, and commitment among both students and staff.
In the National Common Entrance Examination, Master Balogun Farian Ajibola and Miss Iyasei Ifeanyichukwu Victory emerged as the best candidates. For the National Gifted Examination, Mr. Udo Jacob Chimmremeze Godslove Samuel of Diamond Special Schools, Owerri, and Miss Okpala Chukwugozirin Kamtochukwu of Primary School, Nnewi, took the top honours.
The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) also produced outstanding achievers, with Master Charles Bryan Uzoma and Miss Awanbor Omoriyekmwen Claire of Igbinedion Education Centre, Benin City, recognized as the best performers.
Among staff, Mr. Thadeus Ajagbu, Kogi State Coordinator, was named Best State Coordinator, while Mr. Ola A. Kareem received the award for Best Driver (2024).
Speaking at the event, Prof. Wushishi stressed that the ceremony went beyond recognition of performance.
> “This is about embedding a culture of discipline, continuous improvement, teamwork, and ethical service in both staff and students. Despite challenges, excellence remains achievable, and it should reflect in every aspect of our lives,” he said.
The NECO boss also highlighted some of the Council’s recent milestones, including the smooth conduct and timely release of examinations, transparent staff promotion processes, and the introduction of ICT-driven systems to ensure fairness and efficiency.
Commending the leadership of Prof. Wushishi, Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Alhaji Abdulmalik Sarkin-Daji, described NECO’s growing reputation for integrity and credibility as a direct result of his exemplary administration.
