Tsholotsho High School head, Mr. Sicelo Dube, has celebrated the institution’s proud history of producing future leaders, highlighting several alumni who have risen to prominent positions in Zimbabwe.
Mr. Dube made the remarks during the school’s Annual Speech and Prize-Giving Day held last Friday. The event, themed “Nurturing Entrepreneurs Through a Heritage-Inspired Education,” was both inspiring and engaging for all who attended.
“This school has produced over 18 headmasters, including myself, as I am a former student of this school,” Mr. Dube said.
The guest of honour, Mr. Joseph Khaura — a former teacher, successful businessman, and member of the Tsholotsho International and Local Business Association (TILBA) — expressed pride in being associated with the school.
“I’m very proud to be associated with the school of choice. Thumbs up for the activities taking place at this school. We are all proud to be part of Tsholotsho High School,” said Mr. Khaura.
He also praised the school’s academic excellence, noting that its 83 percent O-Level pass rate was an outstanding achievement. “Eighty-three percent is not an easy task. That is cream; that is gold. Tsholotsho High School is an A school,” he said. He encouraged parents to recognize and support the school’s continued success.
Mr. Khaura further emphasized the importance of leadership and inclusivity, commending the school’s efforts to support learners living with disabilities. “That is a good characteristic of the school. Let us, as a nation, consider and remember disadvantaged learners,” he added.
Echoing his sentiments, Mr. Dube highlighted Tsholotsho High’s consistent academic excellence. In 2023, the school achieved a 97 percent pass rate at Advanced Level and 78 percent at Ordinary Level. In 2024, these results improved to 97.3 percent and 83 percent, respectively.
The school also continues to excel in sports and the arts. In 2025, it built a state-of-the-art multi-purpose court, which hosted the Stella Under-17 Netball National Tournament. Additionally, the school choir recently qualified to participate in the National Competitions held at Mtshabezi High School in Gwanda.
“Learning at Tsholotsho High School is practical as well. Recently, learners went on an educational tour to Harare to visit Zimbabwe’s new Parliament building,” Mr. Dube said.
The school also runs an ongoing “No to Drugs” campaign, a key topic discussed during the ceremony.
Established in 1977, Tsholotsho High School has grown into a leading center of educational excellence in Matabeleland North Province. With an enrollment of over 678 learners — the majority being boarders — the school offers a well-rounded education aligned with Zimbabwe’s Heritage-Based Curriculum. This approach equips learners with academic, practical, and entrepreneurial skills essential for national development.
