All candidates seeking admission into non-regular programmes in Nigerian tertiary institutions must now provide their National Identification Number (NIN) when registering with JAMB.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) introduced this requirement to curb fraudulent activities and ensure the integrity of student records. The directive applies to all non-regular programmes, including Distance Learning, Part-time, Sandwich, and NOUN courses.
To register, candidates must first create a JAMB profile by sending their NIN through their unique phone number to either 55019 or 66019. After successfully creating a profile, candidates can proceed to a Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre for registration. Upon completion, their details will appear on the institution’s Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) under the non-regular category. Institutions will then propose candidates for approval, after which admission letters can be printed.
JAMB further explained that candidates who previously registered but did not link their NIN or unique phone number must now do so to access the Board’s services. However, this process cannot be used to change any previously submitted data.
The Board also emphasized that the registration platform is available throughout the year, allowing candidates the flexibility to complete their registration at any time. Prospective students are advised to register with JAMB before approaching their preferred institutions for admission processing. Candidates will still be required to pay any applicable institutional processing fees.
This move by JAMB reflects its commitment to making non-regular programme admissions more secure and streamlined. Students are urged to comply with the new NIN requirement to ensure a smooth, efficient, and fraud-free admissaion process.
