The Federal Government has announced that the new curriculum on Information Technology and Digital Economy will be fully implemented in all Nigerian schools starting January 2026.
Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), revealed this during the launch of the book “The Power of a Teenager: 50 Ways to Inspire Change” by Rep. Bamidele Salam. Represented by NITDA Director Dr. Ayodeji Eniola, Abdullahi emphasized that the initiative aims to accelerate Nigeria’s digital economy and achieve 70% digital literacy among Nigerians by 2027.
“The President mandated us to work with the Ministry of Education to design a new curriculum, and it has been approved to take effect from January next year, across all schools from kindergarten to tertiary institutions,” Abdullahi said. He added that the curriculum is designed to equip students with essential digital literacy skills.
Abdullahi also noted that NITDA has begun training teachers nationwide to implement the curriculum. Initiatives include digital literacy programs for civil servants, market women, artisans, and NYSC members to ensure broad digital skills development.
Representing President Bola Tinubu, Dr. Ibrahim Olarenwaju commended Rep. Salam for youth development initiatives and called on stakeholders to actively mentor young Nigerians. Vice President Kashim Shettima, represented by Dr. Kingsley Uzoma, described the launch as a demonstration of the potential of Nigerian children.
Rep. Salam highlighted the achievements of his Children of Africa Leadership and Values Development Initiative (CALDEV), noting that children trained through the program have gone on to lead community projects, host radio programs, and advocate against early marriage and child labor. He encouraged state governments to replicate the program to strengthen leadership training for youths nationwide.
