The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) has inaugurated School Safety and Security Response Teams across public primary schools in the state, reinforcing efforts to provide safer, child-friendly learning environments.
The launch took place on Thursday, January 8, 2025, during a Stakeholders’ Engagement Forum attended by school administrators, parents, community leaders, education stakeholders, and security agencies.
Speaking at the event, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu Tolani Ali-Balogun, explained that the initiative is anchored on strong collaboration with security operatives.
He said the partnership ensures swift response to security threats, effective intelligence sharing, and protection of pupils, teachers, and school facilities.
LASUBEB Chairman, Dr Hakeem Shittu, described the safety teams as a first line of defense within schools, structured to proactively identify risks and manage emergencies while working hand-in-hand with relevant security agencies.
He emphasized that a secure school environment is essential for effective teaching and learning.
Dr Shittu also highlighted that the initiative aligns with the Lagos State Government’s child protection and school safety framework, stressing that school safety is a collective responsibility requiring cooperation between institutions, communities, and parents.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps described the forum as timely and strategic, urging school heads and stakeholders to sustain collaboration with the safety teams and security operatives.
He emphasized the need for vigilance, integrity, and strict adherence to safety protocols to protect learners across Lagos State public schools.
