As part of ongoing efforts to ensure effective implementation of the academic calendar and efficient school management, in line with the Board’s mantra of “Leave No Child Behind,” the Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), Dr. Hakeem Babatunde Shittu, monitored the first day of the second term of the 2025/2026 Academic Session across selected public primary schools in Lagos State.
The monitoring exercise covered St. Agnes Primary School, Maryland Primary School, among other public primary schools, where the Executive Chairman assessed pupils’ turnout, teachers’ attendance and punctuality, as well as the general level of preparedness of schools for the new term.
While noting that pupils’ turnout on the first day of resumption was not encouraging, Dr. Shittu stressed the importance of prompt return to school, describing it as critical to effective teaching and learning. He called on parents and guardians across the state to ensure that their children and wards resume school early, emphasizing that consistent attendance plays a vital role in pupils’ academic performance and overall development.
Dr. Shittu commended teachers and school administrators who resumed promptly, urging them to remain dedicated to their responsibilities and to continue providing a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment for pupils.
During the visit, the Executive Chairman interacted with pupils and teachers. A notable highlight of the exercise was his engagement with Esther Mathias, a Primary Two pupil, who expressed her aspiration to become a teacher in the future. Dr. Shittu encouraged her to remain focused and hardworking, describing her ambition as a positive reflection of the impact of quality education and committed teaching.
He reiterated Board’s commitment to sustained monitoring and supervision of schools to ensure adherence to standards and to support the State Government’s drive towards improved learning outcomes at the basic education level.
