Students of the Federal Government College (FGC), Kaduna, found guilty of bullying will face indefinite suspension as the school intensifies efforts to eliminate the practice.
The Chairman of the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA), Ibrahim Abdul, disclosed this during the college’s 29th Speech and Prize-Giving Day, saying the school has adopted a zero-tolerance policy through collaboration between the PTA, parents and the management.
According to Abdul, regular monitoring by PTA officials and strict disciplinary measures have significantly reduced incidents of bullying in the college.
“Bullying is gradually becoming a thing of the past as far as Federal Government College is concerned because we have put all hands on deck. The PTA, the parents and the school management are all working together,” he said.
He explained that PTA members conduct unscheduled visits to the school at different times of the day and night to monitor students’ welfare and ensure discipline is maintained.
Abdul warned that any student found engaging in bullying would be placed on indefinite suspension, stressing that offenders would miss important school activities and opportunities.
“The senior ones know that once you get caught bullying, you are going on indefinite suspension. If you want to remain a proud product of this school, then you have to put bullying behind you,” he said.
He urged PTAs across the country to work closely with school authorities to tackle bullying and other disciplinary issues.
Also speaking, the Principal of FGC Kaduna, Kofi Akpan, reaffirmed the school’s commitment to producing students who are academically outstanding and morally upright.
He described the speech and prize-giving ceremony as an opportunity to celebrate academic excellence, resilience, discipline and good character among students.
The Global President of the Federal Government College Kaduna Old Students Association (FGCKADOSA), Fatima Ambashair Kyari, commended the alumni association for sponsoring all the prizes presented during the ceremony.
She said the initiative reflects the association’s commitment to rewarding excellence and encouraging students to uphold integrity, discipline and hard work.
Outstanding graduating students were also recognised with cash awards for their exceptional academic performance.
