The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media alleging that the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Monguno, Borno State, was attacked, assuring parents and guardians that students and staff remain safe.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Boriowo Folasade, the ministry described the report as “entirely false, irresponsible and misleading,” warning that it was capable of causing unnecessary panic among the public.
The ministry stated that there was no attack on the school, adding that all students, staff and boarding facilities were safe and fully accounted for, while academic and other school activities continued without disruption.
Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, reaffirmed that the safety, security and welfare of learners in all Federal Government Colleges remain a top priority of the Federal Government.
He noted that FGGC Monguno operates under robust security arrangements designed to ensure the continuous protection of students, staff and school facilities.
The minister also clarified that no student of FGGC Monguno was involved in the incident being linked to the school on social media. According to him, those affected were remedial students outside the college, while the Borno State Government is taking steps to ensure their safety and welfare.
The ministry urged the media, bloggers, social media users and the general public to verify information from credible and official sources before publishing or sharing it.
It warned that the deliberate spread of unverified information misleads the public, creates unnecessary fear, undermines confidence and distracts from efforts to provide safe learning environments for students.
The ministry advised parents and guardians to remain calm, insisting that there is no security threat at FGGC Monguno, and reaffirmed its commitment to working with security agencies, state governments and school authorities to ensure the safety of all Federal Government Colleges across the country.
