Overview
The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), in collaboration with the Sasol Foundation, is offering comprehensive bursaries for the 2026 academic year. The program supports full-time undergraduate students who are South African citizens, especially women, black individuals, and people with disabilities, pursuing qualifications in science, engineering, and technology (SET) fields.
Eligible Fields of Study
Applicants must be pursuing or planning to pursue degrees in the following disciplines:
Mechatronic Engineering
Computer Engineering
Electronic Engineering
Computer Science
Chemical Engineering
Process Engineering / Life Cycle Assessment
Industrial Engineering
Information Technology
Data Science
System Engineering
Material Flow Analysis
Genetics / Cell Biology
Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics
Environmental/Plant/Cell Biology
Eligibility Criteria
For Current Grade 12 Learners:
Must be a South African citizen
Must intend to enrol full-time at a South African public university
Minimum subject requirements:
English – Level 5
Mathematics – Level 6
Physical Science – Level 6
For Current University Students:
Must be a South African citizen
Must plan to enrol full-time in 2026
Must have passed all registered courses in the current year
Bursary Benefits
The bursary covers all costs associated with university study:
Registration and tuition fees
Prescribed books
Accommodation
Living allowance
Once-off laptop allowance
