The Bauchi State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all schools in the state following growing security threats.
The directive affects every primary, secondary, and tertiary institution—whether state-owned, federal, or private.
The announcement was made on Sunday by the Ministry of Education’s Information and Public Relations Officer, Jalaludeen Usman. He said the decision was taken after wide consultations due to what he described as “overwhelming security concerns affecting the safety of students, teachers, and school communities.”
Usman explained that although the step was tough, the government could not ignore the risks.
“The protection of our children remains our highest moral responsibility. Every student deserves to learn in an environment that is safe, stable, and free of fear,” he said.
He called on parents, guardians, and school owners to remain calm, assuring them that security agencies were already working with the government to tackle the situation and restore normal academic activities as soon as it is safe.
The ministry also urged residents to stay alert and report suspicious activities.
“If you see something, say something. Timely information from the public is crucial in safeguarding our communities,” Usman added. The closure comes amid rising fear across the northern region following recent abductions of secondary-school students in Kebbi and Niger states. On Friday, the Federal Government also ordered the temporary closure of 41 unity schools over similar concerns.
