Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, has announced the appointment of Professor Philip Oguntunde as its new substantive Vice-Chancellor, effective January 1, 2026.
The appointment was approved by the University’s Board of Trustees following a recommendation by the Governing Council, according to a statement issued by the Registrar, Mr. Omololu Adegbenro.
Professor Oguntunde, a renowned scholar in Ecohydrology and Water Resources Engineering, was described as an accomplished academic and administrator with an outstanding record of scholarship, research, leadership, and institutional development.
A First Class graduate of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Professor Oguntunde was born in 1969 and holds a PhD in Environmental Hydrology and Water Engineering from the University of Bonn, Germany. He has also undergone advanced leadership training in higher education management. He rose through the academic ranks at FUTA and was appointed Professor in 2014.
With over 100 publications in high-impact journals, as well as several books and monographs, Professor Oguntunde has made significant contributions to research and postgraduate training. He has supervised more than 15 PhD candidates and over 20 Master’s degree students and is widely respected for his mentoring capacity. He has also attracted multi-million-naira and foreign-currency research grants, supporting research advancement, capacity building, and infrastructural development.
Professor Oguntunde has held several key leadership positions at FUTA, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development) for two terms, Member of the Governing Council, and Director of the University Advancement Centre. He is also credited with facilitating strong local and international academic and research collaborations.
A Fellow of several leading professional and scientific bodies in Nigeria and abroad, his appointment, the university said, reflects Elizade University’s commitment to academic excellence, research innovation, and world-class university governance.
