The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed as false and misleading the viral messages circulating through a spoofed version of its official 66019 shortcode, urging candidates to reprint their examination slips for a rescheduled examination.
In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by the Board’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB warned that the messages did not originate from the examination body and should be disregarded by the public.
“There are currently no scheduled examinations. Candidates who have already sat for the resit examination and received their results should not panic. These messages are fake and intended to mislead unsuspecting candidates,” the statement read.
JAMB clarified that the only examination currently pending is the foreign Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which is conducted in nine countries across Europe, the Middle East, and selected African nations. In addition, a mop-up examination will be organised in 2025 for candidates who missed both the main UTME and the resit due to biometric verification issues and have been granted special waivers.
“The public is urged to ignore these fraudulent messages. Only candidates who qualify for the mop-up will be formally notified when logistics for the exercise have been concluded,” Benjamin added.
The examination board reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its communication channels and cautioned candidates to rely solely on official announcements via verified platforms.
This is not the first time JAMB has raised the alarm over the circulation of fake messages. The Board continues to partner with security agencies to track fraudsters and protect candidates from exploitation.
