The Honourable Minister of Education, Maruf Olatunji Alausa, has joined senior government officials in London to receive President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of his official state visit to the United Kingdom.
The visit is expected to focus on strengthening international partnerships and attracting investment into Nigeria’s education and skills development sector.
As part of the engagements, the Minister is scheduled to meet with global partners, including Big Win Philanthropy, to advance the second phase of Nigeria’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative. The programme is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism, with a focus on equipping young Nigerians with industry-relevant skills.
In addition, Alausa will hold strategic discussions with the leadership of University of Birmingham on the next phase of its partnership with University of Lagos. Talks are also expected with Coventry University regarding plans to establish a full campus in Nigeria, a move that could expand access to international-standard education within the country.
Officials say the visit underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to global collaboration in addressing gaps in education, skills development, and capacity building.
The Minister expressed optimism about the outcomes of the visit, noting that the engagements will further strengthen partnerships and position Nigeria to benefit from global expertise and investment in education.
The state visit continues over the coming days with a series of high-level meetings aimed at advancing Nigeria’s development priorities on the global stage.
