QS Akinlolu Fadiyimu, FNIQS, RQS, of the Directorate of Physical Planning at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, has been installed the 12th Chairman of the Ondo State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors. The investiture ceremony was held on March 12, 2026. The event drew professionals from across the construction industry, academics, government officials, and other stakeholders within the built environment sector.
In his acceptance speech, QS Fadiyimu expressed profound appreciation to members of the institute for the trust and confidence placed in him. He assured them of his commitment to strengthening professional ethics, promoting continuous professional development, and fostering collaboration among professionals in the built environment. He said “At a time when the construction industry is confronted with economic uncertainties, rising project costs, and ethical challenges, the role of the Quantity Surveyor has become more critical than ever,” he said. “We are called to be custodians of value, transparency, accountability, and sustainability. The vision of this administration is to consolidate professional excellence, strengthen ethical compliance, enhance members’ capacity, and elevate the visibility and relevance of Quantity Surveyors in Ondo State.”
He also pledged that his administration would prioritize the completion of the institute’s Secretariat and contribute meaningfully to sustainable development in Ondo State and Nigeria.
Delivering the keynote lecture titled “Strengthening Professional Ethics among Construction Teams for Sustainable and Effective Service Delivery,” QS Kolapo Adeyemo emphasized that ethical conduct remains fundamental to professionalism in the construction industry. He noted that professionals such as architects, engineers, builders, and quantity surveyors must strictly adhere to professional standards to ensure transparency, accountability, and value for money in project delivery.
According to him, unethical practices such as cost inflation, poor supervision, and disregard for professional guidelines often lead to project failures, abandoned projects, and a decline in public trust in the construction industry. He therefore urged professionals to uphold integrity, discipline, and teamwork in their practice. The lecture also underscored the importance of continuous professional development, institutional discipline, and stronger enforcement of ethical standards by professional bodies to promote sustainable growth in the construction sector.
In her valedictory remarks, the outgoing chairman, QS (Mrs.) Elizabeth Momoh, expressed gratitude to members of the institute for their support and cooperation throughout her tenure. She noted that her administration focused on strengthening professional standards, encouraging greater participation of members in institute activities, and deepening collaboration with stakeholders in the construction sector.
She highlighted several achievements recorded during her tenure, including the organization of professional development programmes, increased advocacy for ethical practices within the construction industry, and initiatives aimed at mentoring young professionals and students studying quantity surveying. She added that the institute remains committed to upholding professionalism, integrity, and excellence in the built environment. While appreciating members and past leaders of the institute for their support, the outgoing chairman expressed confidence that the new leadership would build on the progress made and continue to advance the ideals of the profession.
In her goodwill message, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure, Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, represented by the Director Academic Planning FUTA Professor Oluwaseyi Awodele, congratulated the newly inaugurated chairman and described the occasion as a celebration of professional excellence and service to the quantity surveying profession. She noted that the university was particularly proud that QS Fadiyimu, who serves as Deputy Director (Quantity Surveying) in the Directorate of Physical Planning, had been entrusted with the leadership of such a prestigious professional body at the state level.
According to her, the recognition reflects the professional competence, integrity, and dedication of the new chairman, as well as the quality of professionals produced by the university. She reiterated the institution’s commitment to supporting professional development, capacity building, and the advancement of built environment professions. As a university of technology, she said, the institution recognizes the vital role quantity surveyors play in ensuring cost efficiency, transparency, accountability, and sustainability in construction projects.
She further expressed confidence that under the leadership of QS Fadiyimu, the Ondo State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors would witness greater professional growth, stronger collaboration among built environment professionals, and increased contributions to infrastructural development within the state and the nation.
