The Federal Government has launched the Tertiary Institution Governance and Transparency Platform (FTIGTP) — a major reform initiative aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and data-driven governance across Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
The new platform was jointly unveiled in Abuja by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, FAMedS, CON, and the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, marking another milestone in the Ministry’s reform agenda as Dr. Alausa clocks one year in office.
According to Dr. Alausa, the FTIGTP will serve as a central hub for verified institutional data, ensuring that all Federal Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education submit accurate information annually, beginning 2026.
> “When we began this reform, most institutions were reluctant to release their data — today, that culture has changed,” he said. “This transparency platform will institutionalize data reporting, helping us build a credible, evidence-based higher education system.”
A key feature of the new policy is that TETFund ICT allocations will now be strictly tied to verified data submissions, meaning institutions that fail to comply will not qualify for ICT-related interventions.
> “No institution will be eligible for TETFund ICT interventions without full data submission and clearance,” Dr. Alausa emphasized.
The Minister commended Vice-Chancellors, Rectors, and Provosts for their cooperation and support, and expressed appreciation to Mr. Osita Chidoka, Chancellor of the Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership, for describing the initiative as “timely and essential for transforming Nigeria’s tertiary education system.”
The launch of the FTIGTP, accessible via www.transparency.education.gov.ng, represents a major step toward restoring public trust and ensuring responsible management of education resources.
Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR’s administration, the Ministry of Education continues to drive reforms aimed at building a transparent, accountable, and globally competitive tertiary education system for Nigeria.
