The 2024/2025 GRADUANDS of the School Of Electrical Systems Engineering SESE And the School of Infrastructure , Mineral, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA have been inducted into the Society of Engineers.
The president Nigeria Society of Engineers who was represented by the Chairman Nigerian Society of Engineers Akure branch, Engr Oluwaseun enjoined the inductees to maintain engineering standard and integrity by adhering to the principles of the profession and ensuring that safety is paramount in all they do and to network . He also enjoined them to keep abreast of seminars and conferences in order to keep pace with emerging trends in the profession. will be reducing if they fail to attend seminars and conferences.
The chairman of the occasion and former Vice Chancellor Anchor University, Lagos and Former Dean of the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology SEET Engr Professor Joseph Afolayan charged them to continue to learn if they must remain relevant in the present world
“Get involved with people who are progressive in mind and always set goals that are higher than you. Have a courageous mind and be innovative by thinking the unthinkable through constant renewal of the body soul and Spirit by always having recourse to God in all you do,” he admonished them.
The Managing Director BBT Machinery Systems Engineering LTD Ibadan Engr Idowu Ogunleye gave the admonition in a lecture titled Beyond, “The Blueprint Re-imagining Engineering For The Next Generation Through Digitization And Impact Driven Design charged them to see their induction as a transformation from learning to leading as they now join a profession built on values and vision. The guest lecturer who stressed the power of innovation tasked them passionately on curiosity ,creativity and discovery enjoining them to always be determined to improve on what is on ground since according to him, innovation means improvement and not just invention. The guest lecturer emphasized “Engineering is not machine alone Engineering is purpose If you remember humans first ,your work will always have value Empathy makes engineering meaningful what we build should enhance life, dignity and wellbeing.”
Ogunleye who warned that engineers who refuse to learn become irrelevant while those who embrace technology are unstoppable stressed the need to move with the changing world, where digitization, automation ,renewable, AI and smart manufacturing are now redefining our world
As they go to the labour market he further counseled them “Africa does not need imported solutions, it needs you. Nigeria is full of engineers looking for jobs but Nigeria is hungry for engineers who can create value. innovation is imagination applied to our own, start where you are ,even if it is small.”
In a remark the Vice Chancellor Of FUTA, Prof Adenike Oladiji felicitated the inductees and commended the leadership of the School of Engineering and departments for sustaining the standard where the best graduating students for the institution has for the past four years emerged from the school ,including for this year.
The vice chancellor who was represented by The Dean School Of Post Graduate Studies FUTA Prof Oluayo Bello-Olusoji affirmed that the present world needs the inductees to solve societal problems as he challenged them to be job creators and not job seekers
Oladiji urged the inductees to uphold excellence and make meaningful contributions to the society as engineers of our time.
The Dean School Of Electrical Systems Engineering SESE Prof Adegoke Melodi urged them not to confuse their profession but be clear on what it entails as according to him they must know that the engineer is trained to create machines for others to use thereby improving human life. Melody advised them to pay attention to all the lessons they learnt while in the university.
The Dean School of Infrastructure, Mineral And Manufacturing Engineering Prof Christopher Akinbile urged them to be proper time managers and to go out as Eagles and soar high as good ambassadors of FUTA .
In a welcome address the chairperson planning committee miss Johnson Orimoogunje was grateful to God and to the Dean School of Engineering and all the lecturers as well as the organizing committee for their support which led to the success of the program.
The induction oath was later administered on the inductees.
